Power in Consistency Part 2
There is real power in being consistent. I think that is one reason the enemy fights to distract, discourage and get us off our course. A strong, powerful believer is dangerous to his agenda in the earth.
Hebrews 5:14 speaks about the consistent habits of a mature believer. “But solid food is for full-grown men, for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law.” Amplified Bible
Notice it speaks about the full-grown or mature man (or woman) being one whose mental faculties are trained by practice to discern between good and evil. Maturing in the natural sense takes practice. A child practices daily hygiene until he no longer needs a parent to remind him to brush his teeth. He has matured in that area. By the time a student graduates from High School, he should have gained certain skills that will help him all his life. Skills like finishing an assignment and turning it in on time. Showing up to school and work on time and doing what you are asked to do. Practicing these disciplines year after year should direct the student to a pathway of responsibility.
A person who walks the path of consistency is one who has practiced doing what they know to do until it becomes part of their lifestyle. If there is an area in your life where you are struggling, don’t give up! Take the verses in Hebrews 5:14 and Isaiah 26:7 and think about them and pray them out loud over your life. You can become consistent in your walk of love. You can be a faithful tither. You can develop a daily time of devotion to God by reading your Bible and praying. It just takes practice. If you fail one day, get back in the swing the next day. That is what people who are practicing do. They continue practicing a skill until they master it.
If a youngster joins the baseball team and steps up to the plate for the first time to hit the ball and misses, no one tells him to give it up. No! They say, “This is just practice. You practice your swing and keep your eye on the ball until you make contact.”
That is what you and I need to remember as believers who are maturing. We must continue to practice what we know to do, based on God’s Word. As we do, our lives will show the results of a path well chosen…. a path of consistency.
If you desire to increase your level of consistency pray the following prayer:
Dear Father,
I desire to choose the path of consistency. I believe based on Hebrews 5:14 that continually setting my mind on living by Your Word will cause me to be able to discern what is best for my life. I want to live a life with few regrets. I know that comes with making the right choices. I ask you to help me be consistent in my life. I know a consistently righteous life, based on Your Word, is a life of great reward.
